Fractional CTO · remote, France and across Europe

All the experience of a CTO. 20% of the cost.

Every SME needs a solid information system. Few can afford the €120,000-a-year technical director that comes with it. I take on that role for you, part time, with 20 years in the trade.

Free and to the point: you leave with an honest opinion, not a sales pitch. I deliberately keep my client list short, so each one gets proper attention.

Chances are you know one of these situations

  • Your vendor is the only one who understands your system, and every request takes weeks.
  • Quotes land on your desk, and nobody in-house can tell whether they are fair.
  • The person who "handled the tech" is leaving, and everyone is holding their breath.
  • Your tools don't talk to each other, so your teams retype everything into Excel.

These are not technical problems. They are leadership problems. That is what a CTO is for, and in an SME that role doesn't justify a full-time hire.

What is a fractional CTO?

Fractional CTO Part-time CTO On-demand CTO Outsourced CTO Hands-on CTO

A fractional CTO is an experienced technical director who takes on the CTO role in a company on a part-time, shared basis: there every week, hands-on when it matters, without the cost or the hiring process of a full-time position. Part-time, on-demand or outsourced CTO: the label changes depending on who is talking, the role does not.

Examples of what it delivers, in numbers

€84,000recovered, every year

At a distribution company of around a hundred people: three employees spent 18 days a month consolidating reports by hand. Automated.

+€1Min revenue, first year

For an e-commerce business: a custom application won them a contract their competitors couldn't serve.

140hfreed up, every month

Of manual data entry removed at that same distributor, for 24 hours of work. The money was sitting there in plain sight.

Real numbers, real clients, over the long run. I'll walk you through them, with the full context.

Two ways to work together

Technical leadership

You already have developers or a vendor, but nobody to make the calls.

  • A prepared strategy session every two weeks
  • Architecture decisions and tool choices settled
  • Your quotes and vendors reviewed by someone who knows the trade
  • Available between sessions when a decision can't wait

Flat monthly fee: €2,000.

Fractional CTO

Technology is critical to your business, and nobody is steering it.

  • A session every week, plus follow-up in between
  • Coordination of vendors and technical partners
  • Roadmap, security, budget: a clear trajectory
  • Hiring and upskilling your teams

Flat monthly fee: €4,000.

Talk it through, 30 minutes

The terms are simple. You are buying a role and results, not a volume of hours: I don't bill by the day, and you don't count my days.

Any new project is quoted separately, before it starts: the retainer never moves mid-course. And I deliberately limit the number of clients I work with at any one time, which is what keeps me genuinely available for each of them.

Who you are talking to

Dominique Thomas. 20 years of software development, 10 years on Laravel, with the official Laravel certification to match. Currently CTO of a healthcare company, after building systems that handle millions of euros in sales for SMEs like yours.

I have worked remotely for 10 years, across France and Europe. You are not talking to an agency or a salesperson: you are talking to the person who will make the decisions with you. My background, references and the results achieved for my clients are on my LinkedIn profile.

How it starts

A 30-minute conversation

We talk about your situation, not mine. You leave with an honest opinion, even if we never work together.

A clear proposal

The role, the rhythm, the price. One page, not a forty-page contract.

We start

First session within two weeks. At any point, you know what has been decided, what is in progress, and why.

The questions I get asked

How much does it cost?

A flat monthly fee: €2,000 for technical leadership, €4,000 for the full fractional CTO role. A fraction of the cost of a salaried CTO, for the whole of the experience. If that budget is out of reach today, I'd rather save you time by saying so right here.

Why not a full-time CTO?

At SME scale, a full-time CTO costs over €120,000 a year, takes six to nine months to hire, and is often bored within a year. What you actually need is sound decisions, made regularly, by someone who has already seen your problems elsewhere. It's a role, not a position.

Why a monthly fee rather than a day rate?

Because counting days encourages selling more of them. You are not buying my time, you are buying a responsibility: that your technology is properly steered. The price stays the same whether the month was calm or hectic, and you know exactly what it costs you.

Does it really work remotely?

I have worked this way for 10 years, including in my current CTO role. Sessions happen over video, decisions are written down and traceable. An on-site visit gets scheduled when it genuinely adds something.

We already have developers or a vendor.

So do most of my clients, and that's a good thing: I don't replace anyone. I make sure they deliver better, that quotes are fair, and that you no longer depend on a single person.

What if it doesn't work out?

Short notice period, and above all: no dependency built in. Decisions are documented, the access belongs to you, everything is reversible. That is also what doing the job properly means.

Your technology deserves proper leadership.
